As various industries host their annual events, so too does the comic book and animation space. Whether you are a dedicated geek eager to connect with like-minded enthusiasts or simply curious about the world of comics and animation, here is a non-exhaustive list of must-attend geek events to add to your calendar for 2025.

Afro Women in Animation Fest (AWIA)

The vibrant world of animation will take centre stage at the Afro Women in Animation Festival 2025, an event dedicated to elevating and showcasing the talents of Black women within the animation industry. Scheduled for 22 March, the festival will bring together animation enthusiasts, creators, and industry professionals to celebrate creativity, empowerment, and the rich narratives shaped by Afro-women animators.

The festival also seeks to address the numerous challenges women face in the animation field, such as representation and access to opportunities. By fostering an inclusive environment for dialogue and collaboration, AWIA aims to inspire a new generation of animators, encouraging them to explore their voices and push the boundaries of storytelling in animation.

To further engage the community, the festival will feature a series of workshops tailored for both aspiring animators and established professionals. These sessions will cover essential topics such as animation techniques, storytelling skills, and the importance of cultural representation in media.
