The Bookause Comic Industry Impact Awards (BCII Awards) is a new initiative designed to recognise, celebrate, and inspire excellence within Nigeria’s growing comic book industry. The awards spotlight individuals and organisations whose outstanding contributions have shaped the industry’s growth, visibility, and overall well-being.

As previously announced, the BCII Awards will feature five major categories: Comic Creator, Comic Publisher, Comic Media, Comic Influencer, and Comic Brand of 2025. Each category has been carefully structured to highlight unique aspects of contribution and impact.

Comic Publisher: This category honours publishers who have released notable comic titles within the year, especially those whose works achieved significant reach, either globally or within Nigeria. Priority will be given to publishers whose releases or marketing efforts attracted fresh attention to the Nigerian comic industry and expanded its audience.

Comic Creator: This award recognises creators whose artistic or storytelling efforts have meaningfully advanced the cultural movement surrounding Nigerian comics. The emphasis here is not only on reach but also on creativity, originality, and the ability to spark curiosity and sustained interest in the industry.

Comic Media: This category celebrates media platforms, be they blogs, podcasts, newspapers, television channels, or digital outlets, that have consistently devoted space to the Nigerian comic scene. The award acknowledges those who have helped amplify conversations and broaden awareness of the industry through impactful coverage.

Comic Influencer: This award goes to the individual who has done the most to promote Nigerian comics within their natural audiences and beyond. It recognises those who have used their voice, network, or influence to champion local creators, foster community engagement, and inspire other players in the ecosystem.

Comic Brand: This category is dedicated to businesses, organisations, or individuals that have demonstrated significant support for the Nigerian comic industry. This may include partnerships, sponsorships for comic events, or investments in training, workshops, and comic productions.

Bookause, in collaboration with The African Comics & Cinematic Empire (TheACE), will be reaching out to major industry event organisers, including Lagos Comic Convention, Comic Con Ibadan, Abuja Comics and Arts Convention, Frame Fest, Nerdwork Convention, Geek Pop Up, and PH City Convention, to nominate candidates across the listed categories.

Entries from these organisations will be carefully vetted by the joint Bookause–TheACE team, after which the final shortlist will be published for public voting. The Comic Brand category, however, will be decided exclusively by an internal panel.

Final nominations will be announced in mid-November, with the voting portal open until late December. The winners will be officially revealed alongside the release of the second edition of the Annual Bookause Comic Industry Report.
