Nigerian animation studio Spoof Animation is celebrating a decade of steady growth and creative evolution, marking ten years since its transformation from a small, passion-driven setup into one of the country’s most trusted animation studios.

Founded in 2015 on a simple but resolute belief that Nigeria can create world-class animation, Spoof Animation has spent the past decade turning that conviction into practice. In a commemorative social media post marking its tenth anniversary, the studio reflected on how that belief has shaped its journey, describing its progress as an evolution of its craft, team, technology, and long-term vision.

Ahead of the anniversary, Spoof Animation shared a visual timeline chronicling key moments in its growth. The story begins in 2015, when Spoof Animation’s founder, Mr. Ayodele, opened an early training initiative called Comic Panel Academy, to young aspiring creatives. According to the studio, several of those early participants would later become industry professionals, forming the foundation of what would later become the studio’s creative workforce.

By 2016, Spoof Animation had formally launched operations, working with a five-person team out of a modest mini-storeroom studio in Ogba, Lagos. The space served as an experimental ground for collaboration, skill-building, and storytelling, laying the groundwork for the studio’s professional ambitions.

A pivotal moment came in 2018, when the studio relocated to a second office and its project Area Daddy gained international attention after being selected at Discop Lab Africa in South Africa. The recognition signaled Spoof Animation’s emergence beyond Nigeria’s borders.

In 2019, the studio relocated once again into a third office and produced Herocorps, an animated short that Spoof Animation credits with significantly improving its production quality and technical standards. The period signaled a clear shift from experimentation to refinement.

Momentum continued in 2022 with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for Ajaka: Lost in Rome. Completed in 2023, the project went on to win Best 2D Animation at LIFANIMA 2023, the Lagos International Festival of Animation, further cementing Spoof Animation’s reputation within Africa’s animation ecosystem.

By 2024, the company entered a new phase of expansion, relocating once again and growing its team in response to increased demand for its work. In 2025, the studio added another international milestone when one of its short films was completed and selected for the Miami Art Tech Summit.

The anniversary post, shared across social media platforms, drew widespread engagement from the studio’s community. Followers filled the comments with congratulatory messages, many recalling the first time they encountered Spoof Animation’s work, a reflection of the studio’s growing cultural footprint within Nigeria’s creative space.

Reflecting on the journey, the studio described its progress as an evolution of “our craft, our team, our technology, our vision,” adding that even after ten years, it is “just getting started.”

As Spoof Animation marks a decade of operation, its journey stands as a case study in persistence, capacity-building, and belief in local creative potential. More broadly, the milestone underscores the maturation of Nigeria’s animation sector and its increasing confidence in asserting an African voice on the global stage.
